The story
Every human endures a unique journey. Experiences and moments that happen as life unfolds. Many people may share in a person’s journey although the entirety of journey is only ever of one.
The Ralf Fisch Kintsukuroi Ring embodies each individual journey with the beauty and intelligence of the centuries-old Japanese art form – Kintsukuroi.
The piece becomes evidence of what might be possible despite the journey so far, the beauty that from each experience – individuals are formed. A reminder of where you have been, where you are and your next piece.
Kintsukuroi
In Japan, there is an art form called kintsukuroi also known as kintsugi which means to repair with gold. When a ceramic item breaks, the artisan would put the pieces back together using a special tree sap lacquer dusted with powdered gold, silver, or platinum to create something stronger, more beautiful, than it was before.
The damage is not something to hide. It does not mean that the object is ruined or without value because it is different than what was planned. Kintsukuroi is a way of living that embraces every flaw and imperfection. Every crack is part of the history of the object and it becomes more beautiful, transforms into a piece of art, precisely from the experience.
